Social and environmental responsibility bears a strategic role for the long-term profitability and attractiveness of Flytoget.
The overarching target is to increase the number of people who take public transport to the airport, and thus decrease emissions coming from cars. In relation to this, Flytoget has chosen to follow the Global Reporting Initiative standards in order to improve their transparency when it comes to sustainability, and between 2006-2008 they managed to cut down their energy use by 15%.
Flytoget is also part of an initiative called Klimaløftet, which has lead to the company only using certified clean energy as well as initiating an effort to increase waste recycling at its main stations.
Flytoget has supported research and development through supporting young entreprenuership through the programme Ungt Entreprenørskap. They also support the Red Cross by giving money to a number of their activities. Finally, the company encourages its employees to give money to charities as well as devote their time as voluntaries for various initiatives such as, blood donations and refugee support.
If you speak Norwegian and fly to and from Oslo regulary, you can use Flytogets own Climate Calculator, which calculates the benefits for you and the planet that comes from taking the train rather than the car to the airport.
